What are “green bin” programs?

The Green Bin programs are programs that collect organic waste (food, paper, pet waste, etc.) and converting it to a communal compost. According to a study done in Ottawa (where a green bin program is in full swing), 45% of what is thrown into landfills can be placed in these green bins. By joining a green bin program, you can help cut down on greenhouse gases produced by landfills, not to mention cutting down on what goes into landfills and extending the landfill’s “life.” The compost gathered in green bins is then sold to agricultural businesses, so it’s friendly to just about everyone.
