ESPN.com has compiled a list of the top 10 colleges for skiiers. The list includes University of Utah, which is a half-hour drive from several ski resorts. Pro skiiers who have previously enrolled in the university include Suzanne Graham and Tom Wallisch.
Another college that is good for people who love to skii is the University of Colorado at Boulder, which is half an hour from Eldora. On weekends, students can buy a roundtrip bus ticket from campus to Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail or Arapahoe Basin for $15.
Notice that the ESPN article reads “In compiling this list, we did not take into account academic stature, professor-to-student ratio or the quality of the food in the cafeteria.”
I.e., several of them are less-than-great universities. If all you want to do is ski every day, perhaps you shouldn’t be going to college. (Unless you’re so rich you or your parents can afford to blow off $100,000s.)
Many students, even very good ones, are finding it hard to pay off student loans. And we’re not talking about a few extra months, we’re talking about years or decades.
If what you really want to do is ski, then ski. Take a few months off. Think about what you want to do, what you’re good at. Then don’t mix business with pleasure, get the training you need for your career. Regardless of whether it’s at a party school.
