The Federal Trade Commission’s new “green guides” aim to prevent sweeping generalizations in labeling products. Companies can no longer just throw out general terms like “eco-friendly” on their products, and if a product is made of recycled material, the packaging must include information on what was recycled and how. The rule changes are the first since 1998, and were made to help out the consumer realize what truly is beneficial to the environment.
