The Pacific Islands, collectively called Oceania, are no stranger to environmental issues. The Pacific Islands Environmental Outlook of 1999 states that the most pressing issues are loss of biological diversity; threats to freshwater resources; degradation of coastal environments; climate change and sea level rise; and land and sea based pollution. In 2010, the Planning and Policy for Ecosystem-Based Management Forum still held that rising sea levels, pollution, and climate change were a big problem, as well as availability of resources and data; population and socioeconomic change; food and land security; invasive species; outdated and conflicting policies and regulations; and enforcement of said policies.
