What are factory farms?

Factory farms are farms that are so large scale that they resemble industrial factories. They are also known as Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs). Instead of the open green pastures of the past, most modern farms have taken this approach to increase profits. By maximizing the amount of food they can produce in a limited space, farmers are able to bring in far more money than before. However, this comes with a price, and often times that price entails a risk for the animals’ and consumers’ health. By buying locally you can avoid supporting these corporate super-farms.
