Factory farming is the process of raising livestock for food indoors in a factory-like setting. The practice began in the 20s when people discovered that if you feed them sufficient amounts of vitamin A & D, animals did not need sunlight and exercise to grow. Therefore, people began raising cows and other animals indoors in close quarters to increase production and cut down on costs. The animals in factory farms are usually given a lot of hormones and locked in small cages.
