Hairsprays packaged in the form of aerosols are bad for the environment because they release chloroflourocarbons (CFCs). CFCs destroy the ozone layer, which accelerates global warming. If you must use hairspray, the more environmentally-friendly alternative is the pump bottle form, which doesn’t release CFCs into the air.
As ziapan stated previously, aerosol hairsprays release CFCs into the air, which then convert ozone into oxygen. This chemical reaction reduces the amount of ozone in the stratosphere and allows dangerous amounts of UV radiation to reach the earth’s surface. Many chemicals used in the hairspray itself can also be harmful to your immediate environment (have you ever accidentally used hairspray in a small enclosed space? There’s no faster way for me to feel sick.)
