What are the environmental impacts of the cans used for canned food?

Metal is easily recycled and actually worth the process. The other options for keeping food aren’t always as efficiently recycled or recyclable at all – plastic bags for instance. Canned food also has a longer shelf life reducing waste and the need for more resources if the product spoils. Most canned food cans are already recycled, so the environmental impacts are the energy to recycled the can, fill it, ship it, and store it.
