    Many wastes emit toxic chemicals if burned.  For example, chlorine creates dioxin which is carcinogenic and causes birth defects.  Unfortunately these pollutants don’t just stay in the air, but will usually end up in water sources and end up being bioaccumulated.  The article below gives more in depth examples of the harm burning household waste.
