What are the effect of dams on forests?

Some forests have been reported to be in decline due to the existence of dams. For example, Boise’s black cottonwood forest has declined after the introduction of Lucky Peak dam. This is because of a lack of flow of water to the forest, which grew by seeds before. Stream flows allowed to flow into the forest could slowly grow back.
