What are the Earth’s major carbon sinks?

The Earth’s three major carbon sinks are oceans, forests, and grasslands. These sources actively absorb carbon from the atmosphere, but they are currently being overwhelmed by the volume of emissions we are producing. Another sink is frozen soil. As temperatures around the world continue to rise, though, these sources are only releasing carbon rather than actively sequestering any more.
