Diesel-hybrid cars are just like gasoline hybrid cars. These cars use diesel fuel when not using power from the battery. It is argued that diesel fuel burns much cleaner than gasoline; therefore the diesel hybrid would be even better for the environment. Mercedes is coming out with a diesel hybrid in 2011.
Diesel-hybrids are very similar to gasoline-hybrids except that diesel have higher compression ratios and can therefore provide more torque. Additionally, diesel powered cars often achieve better mileage than gasoline so the combination of diesel-hybrid looks promising. However, the current limiting factor is the price as they are much more expensive to produce.
