Some politicians continue to try to include nuclear energy in the renewable portfolio standards (RPS) of the various state governments across the use. Activists on the other hand continue to fight against this move pointing out that though nuclear power does not produce carbon emission and thus is neutral where it comes to global warming, but it is not sustainable or renewable. Using current technology nuclear power plants produce radioactive waste that will last hundreds of thousands of years, is destructive to the environment and to people’s health, and we have no way of disposing of. Furthermore, nuclear power uses uranium which must be mined out of the ground much like coal with all the environmental and social.
