What are the consequences of the methane at the bottom of the ocean being released?

Methane, like carbon dioxide, is a green house gas. In fact it’s effects are even stronger then that of CO2. So if the oceans begin to release the methane they contain this will speed up global warming considerably, something that many of the current climate models don’t take into account.
