Like other sources of nuclear energy, use of thorium poses risk to public health and safety, problems with disposal and storage of radioactive wastes and high development and maintenence costs. The relatively short lifespan of a nuclear power plant is also a downside. Additionally, thorium is a finite resource, thus it is not a permanent solution to our energy needs.
