What are the components of a self-sustaining ecosystem?

Every ecosystem has producers, consumers, and decomposers. These are the 3 major roles in the ecosystme. Producers are living things that make their own food from the energy of the sun, chemicals, or other environmental factors. Consumers eat the producers or other consumers for food. Decomposers take dead tissue and break it down to be their food. These three roles encompass all the kingdoms of life, especially plants, animals, and microbes. All three need to be present for an ecosystem to be self-sustaining, assuming that sunlight does not run out.
