Safety wise, lithium-ion batteries tend to run very hot. There have been a number of recalls of lithium-ion batteries because of threat of combustion due to high temperatures.
Lithium-ion batteries are also susceptible to internal resistance, which means the battery loses its ability to draw maximum voltage from the power source. This can happen to the point that the battery does not hold any charge and is rendered useless.
