“CO2” stands for carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas contributing to global warming.  Many human activities release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, but the most important sources are the burning coal, oil, and other fossil fuels to generate energy, and deforestation around the world.  Carbon dioxide is a natural component of the atmosphere, and we need a certain amount to trap heat from the sun and keep the earth from becoming too cold.  However human activities are adding extra carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, with the result that more and more heat from the sun in being trapped, causing global temperatures to rise.  This is global warming.
