What are solar cells made of?

Solar cells are composed of several different silicon layers that each allow light to hit and then scatter.  A sheet of glass covers and protects these silicon layers.  Below the silicon layers, conductive material, and glass sheet is another conductive material layer that is attached through wires to the conductive material at the top of the cell.
