Groundwater contamination is a type of pollution. When man-made products such as gasoline, oil, road salts and chemicals seep into the ground and our water systems, it is classified as groundwater contamination.  This type of pollution makes the water unsafe and unfit for human use. Contaminants include storage tanks, septic systems, hazardous waste sites, landfills, road salts, fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals.
