Perhaps one of the most alluring places to build wind turbines would be off shore. Not only would they be out of eye-sight, but they would also pick up more wind with a flat, drag free ocean surface around it. Additionally, think about the possibilities of combining both wind and tidal energy in one generator.
The US Department of Energy suggests that an excellent location would have an average wind speed of 15.8 miles per hour 50 meters above the ground. This should be recorded for a year to take into consideration wind changes due to seasons. Turbines whould be not be obscured by any objects such as buildings or trees. Many of these turbine are put on hills or offshore out of sight and away from any obstructions. The higher from the ground the turbine, the better.
