Buying food that is grown or produced locally is even more important than eating organic. Some organic foods are still shipped thousands of miles to your grocer, which outweighs the good done by refraining from using pesticides. Lots of farmers markets sell food that is both organic and locally grown–even better. And in general, eating a diet that is free of animal products (meat, dairy, eggs) is a plus because livestock have a huge impact on the environment, and require far more resources to get to your table.
