Perhaps the most basic and fundamental chemical reaction is the basis for all life on Earth; photosynthesis. Performed by not just plants, but also many microorganisms like Algae, photosynthesis is the transformation of light energy from the sun into glucose sugars, the fuel that allows all life to grow. In this reaction, 6 molecules of Carbon Dioxide and 6 molecules of Water are mixed with light energy, which chemically transforms the individual atoms, restructuring them to produce 6 molecules of Oxygen and 1 molecule of simple sugar. This fuels the growth of not just the photosynthesizers, but also everything else because they are the bottom rung of the food chain.
