Leroy “Satchel” Paige is widely considered one of the greatest pitchers to play the game of baseball; many say he was the best of all time. Spending most of his career pitching in the Negro Leagues before Major League Baseball had been integrated by Jackie Robinson, not as much is known about him. He did become the oldest player to ever make his Major League debut in 1948 at the age of 42 years old. This ageless pitching titan was known for throwing harder than anyone else in baseball and with impeccable precision. He was a very charismatic character and named many pitches he invented throughout the years. Amongst others, he threw the following: hesitation pitch, midnight rider, four-day creeper, bat dodger, wobbly ball, nothin’ ball, drooper, looper, the two-hump blooper, hurry-up ball, smoke ball, bee ball, and the aspirin. Many claimed that they were all essentially fastballs with slight variations each, but Paige would likely take offense to such a claim.
