The answer to this question largely rests on the type of research you wish to conduct. If you are looking to observe monkeys in their natural environment, then captive bred monkeys would not be your best choice as monkeys bred in captivity will not know how to forage as effectively and may not even have the same diet as a wild monkey, and will have many behavioral differences from wild monkeys. However, captive bred monkeys are more convenient for research in that they are easy to locate when in captivity and you may not have to travel to their native habitats to find them. Also, monkeys bred in captivity are likely to be more accepting of humans, so if you are conducting research that require a close proximity to monkeys, or contact with them, captive bred monkeys would be a better choice.
