Artic Oscillation is a circulation pattern in the atmosphere where pressure in the polar regions differ and is the complete opposite from pressure in the middle latitudes. This variation can last anywhere from weeks to decades. This type of pattern can reach down into the earth’s troposphere or up into the stratosphere depending on the time of year.
Arctic Oscillation is an index of the pattern of non-seasonal sea level pressure variations. It alternates between positive and negative phases. During the last nine years the Arctic Oscillation (AO) has been low.
