An antikythera mechanism is an ancient mechanical calculator designed to calculate astonomical positions. It was discovered in 1900 and is believed to have been built 100-150 years BC. It took many years for historians and archaeologists to understand the sigfinicance of the mechanism as comparable techonology was not achieved in Europe until the 14th century. You can now see it at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
