    There are four anteater species, the giant anteater, as mentioned above is the Myrmecophaga tridactyla.  There are also the Northern and Southern Tamandua (Tamandua mexicana and Tamandua tetradactyla respectively.  Lastly, the silky anteater or Cyclopes didactylus rounds out the different anteater species.
