Of mammals, all felines, bears, rodents, and marsupials keep their eyes closed and are blind for the first 3-4 months of their lives. These animals’ eyes stay closed to protect them from harsh light. Most of these animals are born in dens, so it makes sense that their retinae would be more sensitive to solar exposure.
