According to most sources I can find, the most eaten animal in the world is pig. It provides almost 40 percent of the protein that people eat daily; remember, that includes pork, bacon, ham, sausages…pigs are also intelligent animals that can be trained to help the police department or to find expensive truffles with their great sense of smell.
But taking another angle, the animal that has historically been most closely linked to humans is the dog. It was undoubtedly the first animal we domesticated, well over 10,000 years ago. They may have been attracted to human settlements because of the abundant food, and soon began to help us hunt, herd, and defend territory. Since then, we have artificially selected hundreds of breeds for all sorts of uses, including simple companionship.
The bee. I know it’s an insect, but without their prolific ability to pollinate we wouldn’t have the agriculture we do. Without the agriculture, we wouldn’t have the food for any of our other domesticated foods.
Bees are incredibly important due to the food they provide. The answer to the question is not likely an animal that humans eat directly, as in the modern era, humans do not need to eat meat in order to lead a healthy life.
