What is America’s 2020 climate goal?

At a conference in Geneva last month, US Climate envoy Todd Stern reiterated the Obama administration’s goal: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17% of 2005 emission levels by 2020. This goal is to be met by implementing new legislation that will work in tandem with regulations of the Environmental Protection Act (EPA). At this time, the Senate has failed to pass such legislation. If this goal is met, it will be a 3% cut in emission levels from 1990 figures.
