What is added to iron to make steel?

steel is iron, with the carbon taken out of the molecular structure and then a different/lesser amount of carbon is re-added to the molten iron to create steel. the carbon content becomes .2%-2.1% depending on the grade of steel. other metals can be added to provide other metallic properties to the steel produced to create an alloy.
