The per acre yield of extracted oil from Jatropha crops is 2,226 gallons. They are used for biodiesel production and have a better yield than some of their counterparts. For example, soybean production in the United States yields 280 gallons of oil per acre.
And just to provide some perspective, those 2226 gallons, requiring an acre, amount to one-quarter of one second of present US oil consumption.
