Poaching of any animal poses a serious problem for the survival of the animal. Whales are no different. Commercial whaling became illegal in 1986 with the International Whaling Commission launched, yet poaching still exist all around the world. Japan and Norway are the top advocates for dropping the ban, as well as illegally killing off these creatures. Both countries eat whale meat regularly in restaurants. Minke whales and grey whales are the main ones facing this threat, and even though their populations have risen since the whaling ban was set in place they may not be able to keep bouncing back.
