Were solar panels a lot thicker in the 80’s?

Solar panels used to be manufactured a lot bulkier than they are today. Monocrystalline panels, which are rigid and heavy, dominated the market for many years and are still available to buy. But as photovoltaic cell production has improved, we’ve created thinner and more flexible cells which are much easier to handle. They are often applied to flexible laminate material and are called amorphous solar panels.
