It’s true that energy efficiency is one of the best ways to reduce our consumption of fossil fuels – and a relatively easy way to address global warming as well. However, because of the urgency of the need to transition away from coal and other fossil fuels for electricity generation, we will probably have to invest in both efficiency and renewables at the same time. In many individual cases, it might be a good idea to improve efficiency first and then concentrate on renewables – but on a national scale we must ramp up both efficiency and renewable energy whenever we get the chance.
