We have rivers that go into the ocean all the time is most of that water lost to evaporation?

Not at all.  Rivers are a primary source of water for oceans. Each drop of river water that empties into an ocean is expected to spend over 3,400 years in the ocean before moving on to another stage in the water cycle.  Evaporation of river water does occur, but the amount is small when compared with how much water is being emptied into the ocean.  However, when evaporation occurs water is then turned into water vapor.  Much of this water vapor falls again as rain which will eventually make its way back into rivers and oceans…continuing the cycle.
