    • There are 4 different species of ornamental pear trees: Pyrus calleryana, Pyrus kawakamii, Pyrus pyrifolia, and Pyrus salicofolia. (The “Pyrus” part just means that it is part of the pear family.) The Pyrus calleryana produces similar fruit to which you are describing which are not edible. This species is also characterized by oval leaves which turn a purple color in the fall.
