Was the Nashville flood caused by too much rain or did something else happen?

The floods were caused by a tremendous amount of rain.  The link below shows the 3-day (May 1 to May 3, 2010) rainfall totals for several areas in the Middle Tennessee region.

The 13 inches of rain that Nashville experienced caused flash flooding in the area.  The area was simply not used to having so much rain in such a short amount of time, and the Cumberland River rose very quickly causing most of the flood damage.
