Was this last oil spill the longest that oil has ever freely flowed into the gulf before being capped or fixed?

Yes it was.  There was a previous spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 1979, but this spill spilt less (140 million gallons compared to 185 million gallons) and took place over a shorter period of time.  There was also less substantial environmental damage during this spill.

In addition there are natural seeps into the Gulf that flow freely for decades. Estimates for such seeps range from 4000 tons (approx. 500 barrels) to 200,000 tons (approx. 30,000 barrels) per year, with significant uncertainties.
