John Muir, famed explorer, writer, and conservationist, was also something of a survivalist. The first link below is of a story written by Muir which tells of his exploration of icy Alaska in the fall of 1879. Muir believed in oneness with the land, and he not only was successful in surviving the wilds but aimed to do so while leaving only footprints.
