Was it true what the Washington Post said about nuclear power gaining support from environmentalists?

Some environmentalists endorse nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuel generated power. Perhaps most famously one of the GreenPeace founders, Patrick Moore, supports nuclear as a way to meet our energy needs. However, GreenPeace has distanced itself from Moore.

Nuclear can produce huge amounts of power, but it still remains a very hazardous substance. We can create more jobs by developing truly renewable energy like wind and solar.

The process of mining and processing uranium and other nuclear fuels has damaged the environment, and in Colorado we have three former uranium-processing facilities that remain on the Superfund clean-up list. And even while the companies that produced the uranium are still in existence, they refuse to pay for the cleanups needed while pushing to process more ore, but we can’t let that happen.
