Was Bob Marley and environmentalist?

Judging by his songs, Marley was not particularly concerned with environmental causes, focusing instead on political issues and the “emancipation” of downtrodden peoples. He did sing about having an appreciation for the Earth, but this was probably more focused on marijuana than on saving the rainforests. This isn’t to say that Marley didn’t care about environmental causes, but growing up in the Jamaican ghetto of Trenchtown, his lyrics were more concerned with equality and oppression.
