Vegetable oil is actually not the healthiest oil to cook with. This is primarily because it contains a high amount of trans fat or saturated fat. If you are looking for an alternative oil to cook with try olive, sunflower, canola, peanut, flax seed, or safflower. These oils have a lower saturated fat content and still should be used in moderation because a few, like olive oil, still contain a high concentration of monounsaturated fat.
Like everything, fats should be eaten in moderation. My grandfather was a nutritionist and he decided that the average person should eat a minimum of fourteen grams of fat per day. People who are dieting try to avoid fats because fats have 9 calories per gram, while carbohydrates and proteins only have 4 calories per gram. However, avoiding fats entirely is not healthy. Your body can still create fat stores from carbohydrates and proteins, and it may feel the need to do even more when it is deprived of fats in the diet. Don’t worry too much about it, though. Most people get plenty of fats in their diets!
