Real leather is not considered an eco friendly material. Since the product is derived from an animal, it cannot be considered a renewable resource. There are some companies that obtain their hides humanely and simply take advantage of animals already being slaughtered. This way, no animals are being killed unnecessarily. This would be the only way that leather may be considered eco friendly.

If you want to find truly eco friendly furniture, look for bamboo derived furniture or furniture that uses post consumer recycled materials.
