The US has decided to cease funding for NASA’s space shuttle program because of its high expense. However, NASA claims that “The end of the space shuttle program does not mean the end of NASA, or even of NASA sending humans into space” (NASA website). In fact it sounds like their aspirations are higher than ever (no pun intended). They plan to continue research and development of space transports that will allow astronauts to travel to Mars. NASA sounds confident of their ability to succeed in this. It was suggested that commercial space trips to the International Space Station may a significant source of funding for further pursuits.
