Is the United States producing a lot of algae based fuels?

Algae based fuels are still new to the U.S. and research is still being done to determine whether or not the greenhouse emissions released by the fuel make it a viable alternative.  That being said, in November 2011,  Continental Airlines flight was the first commercial flight to be powered by a 60/40 combination of jet fuel/algae.  Alaska Airlines, too is beginning a ‘pilot’ program combining biofuels with standard jet fuels in order to reduce emissions.
