Is the United States doing anything to try and stop whaling like Australia is?

The United States government is a part of the International Whaling Commission, set up in 1946 under the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling. This body sets regulations on the whaling of certain species, and forbids the whaling of ten others.

Of course membership is voluntary and you can even be a member who “ignores the will” of the IWC. The IWC files sanctions against member countries who violate the regulations set forth by the committee.
