I don’t believe that you can compare the Auris and the Prius in terms of popularity. The Prius was designed to be a hybrid car, meaning that there are no non-hybrid models of the Prius available. The Auris, however, is not designed to be a hybrid car, there will be strictly gasoline versions available before the hybrid. With that said, I do not think that the Prius will be as popular as the Auris because the Prius has the publicity edge of being a hybrid car and only a hybrid car. For example, you can buy a Toyota Camry hybrid, which is not nearly as popular as the Prius because it is not designed to be a hybrid. The Auris will lack this publicity edge that the Prius has of being a car for the environment.
