Fluoride, a commonly used ingredient in most toothpaste, is a cumulative poison whose impact on water quality is greatly debated. The chemicals and preservatives and other artificial ingredients act as antibiotics once put into the water system, affecting the reproductive health of the wildlife as well as humans. There are several brands of eco-conscious toothpastes on the market but the conventional brands still make up the bulk of toothpaste sold nationally. Is toothpaste hurting our water quality? Absolutely.
